Great Work Tool September 4, 2010 C. Gonzalez (Los Angeles) This item was picked up to use as a work tool. Working at clubs and bars sometimes verifying IDs can be difficult with some of the better and better forgeries coming out. Micro-printing is a aspect not easily duplicated at this time so the magnifier with illumination helps to solidify a good judgment call if an inexperienced and/or less than trusting owner or GM question your decision. A slightly better model is available with both a UV LED bulb and the regular LED light to assist with UV sensitive documents and IDs. It is small but a bit bulky and weighty in the pocket. The low price motivated the experimentation.
The lighting is great, but it's NOT 20x (more like 10x) August 8, 2010 L. Perkins (Cali, US) This loupe works very well, mainly because of the light. But this is NOT a 20x loupe. The magnification looks exactly the same as with my 10x loupes. Still, I really like it because the light lets me see much better than I can with unlighted loupes. If you're looking for an inexpensive 10x loupe with a light, I highly recommend this one.
everything I wanted June 7, 2010 mattm9y (Michigan USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a very nice loupe. While I don't have a professional need for one, and therefor no experience with them, this seems to be a very well made product, with a nice metal housing that did not have any dangerously sharp edges,(which I heard on some reviews of different loupes as I did research). The view through it was sharp, and the leds are blindingly bright (if you look directly at them!) and really light up the viewing area. It even had a plastic case. I cannot believe anyone would be disappointed for the money.
Useful and inexpensive tool May 22, 2010 P. Schmidt (Chicago, Illinois USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Older folks or those needing to read very small text or diagrams will appreciate this useful and inexpensive loupe. I was pleased to find that this unit is apparently all-metal...I did not find any part of it that was made of plastic (except maybe the lens; I did not check to see if it was glass or plastic). It produces clearly magnified images, folds neatly away inside its metal housing, and has two bright white LED lamps to illuminate whatever you are trying to view. This last feature is important, because with any magnifier of this type, a common problem is when you get close enough to the viewed object to use it, the loupe and your hand block much if the available light and what you see is dark. This one, however, makes everything bright at the touch if a small switch. The battery compartment unscrews using a small tool that comes with the loupe, or alternately you could use the points of a tweezers, needle nosed pliers, or similar. The battery is a readily available watch/hearing aid type that any hardware store would carry. Amazing to me that a tool of this quality can be had for just a few dollars. I have purchased three more of these now, so I can have one in a desk drawer, in a tool kit, on my work bench, and in my car.
Bargain for the Price March 15, 2010 Antonia Lorenza (Chicago, IL United States) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchased this loupe because my regular 5X magnifying glass would not allow me to determine the hallmark on a piece of jewelry. I was not sure if the item was silver or gold. Well, with this illuminated loupe, the hallmark was immediately discernible (it turned out to be gold). I know I will be using this loupe over and over again. And, yes, the illumination makes a big difference in performance. This loupe was a low-cost resolution to my problem. The plastic case is a bonus to storing the loupe.
